Welcome to TalkMore Speech Therapy Services

TalkMore is a large independent Speech and Language Therapy Practice first founded by Valerie McMillan, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist.

At TalkMore we have a team of highly qualified, experienced and specialist Speech and Language Therapists. All therapists are members of The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), The Association for Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP) and the Health Professions Council (HPC). This ensures that therapists are adhering to agreed standards of practise and have received the accredited qualifications and training.

We provide speech and language therapy for children between the ages of 2 and 12 years with a range of communication difficulties. Assessment and therapy in clients’ own homes across London and the surrounding areas. We also provide a service to schools that consists of assessments, therapy and training packages.

Qualifications and Experience

Valerie McMillan is the founder and director of TalkMore Speech Therapy Services as well as being a qualified Speech and Language Therapist herself with extensive experience of working in the UK. Valerie studied Speech and Language Therapy at City University and qualified with a Postgraduate Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy. She then went on to complete a Masters in Speech and Language Therapy and was awarded with a Masters (MSc) qualification.

Valerie is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health Professions Council. She has full CRB clearance – Enhanced disclosure.

Valerie has worked for a number of years in the NHS in a range of settings – community clinics, sure start settings, mainstream nurseries, ICAN nursery for children with specific language impairment, mainstream schools and special needs schools for children with moderate to severe learning difficulties.

Valerie has a particular interest in Autism and is a specialist in this area. She has worked in many settings managing the needs of children with this condition. Her most recent position was in an independent school for children with autism, ranging from 3 to 19 years of age. This is where she managed the day to day running of the Speech and Language Therapy Department within the school.

All Talkmore Therapists are highly qualified therapists who have all been trained to the highest degree. They are highly specialists in this field. All TalkMore Therapists are members of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health Professions Council.

All therapists at TalkMore attend a range of continuing professional development courses annually. This ensures that we are always kept abreast of the most up to date knowledge on how best to meet the needs of our clients.

What to expect:

At TalkMore we work with Children from 2 to 12 years with Speech, Language and Communication Impairment. These include the following:

- Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Speech impairments including dyspraxia.
- Stammering (Lidcombe Programme trained).
- Specific language impairment (receptive and expressive language     delay/disorder)
- Social Communication Disorder
- Semantic pragmatic Disorder
- Global Developmental Delay
- Down Syndrome
- Parent Child Interaction (PCI)

Assessment and treatment is provided in your own home so that the child is familiar with their surroundings. Following our first contact via phone or email. One of our therapists will be assigned to work with you and will provide an initial contact appointment. Informal and formal assessments will be used to assess your child’s communication skills. At this appointment the therapist will feedback to you on the assessment findings and discuss possible management options.

Services to schools

We also offer services to schools where we can be bought in at a competitive rate to manage the communication needs of individual students in your school. We are available to deliver training on a number of speech and language topics to groups of school staff. Schools contact us via phone or email and an initial contact meeting is set up to discuss your school’s needs. We aim to offer a needs led service to schools and are very flexible in our approach, ensuring that packages of care are tailored to suit the individual school’s needs.
